D3 500 mg/440 IU EFFERVESCENT GRANULES
for oral solution
(Calcium
Carbonate/Cholecalciferol)
What
is this leaflet about?
This
leaflet is a summary of the information about Cacit
D3 effervescent granules for oral solution. Read it
carefully and keep it in case you need to refer to
it again. If you have any questions about your
medicine or your illness, ask your pharmacist
(chemist) or doctor.
What is
in Cacit D3 Granules?
Cacit D3
granules contain 1250 mg of calcium carbonate, (when
dispersed in water, provides 500 mg of calcium as
calcium citrate) and 440 IU of cholecalciferol (vitamin
D).
The granules
also contain citric acid (E 330), malic acid (E 296),
gluconolactone, maltodextrin, sodium cyclamate (E 952),
sodium saccharin (E 954), lemon flavouring (sorbitol (E
420), mannitol (E 421), D-gluconolactone, dextrin, gum
Arabic (E 414), lemon oil), rice starch and potassium
carbonate and traces of corn starch, sucrose, gelatin,
Soya oil and - tocopherol (E 307). The granules are
supplied in sachets and packed in boxes of 30’s.
What are
Cacit D3 Granules used for?
The product
is used in association with some osteoporosis
treatments. It is also used in elderly people, when
calcium and vitamin D are needed for supplementation of
the normal diet.
Are
Cacit D3 Granules right for you?
The product
may be used by patients requiring a salt free diet,
because it contains a very low amount of salt. However,
as with all medicines there are certain precautions.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist BEFORE you take Cacit D3
granules if you :
- have
had kidney stones or other kidney problems (your
doctor will need to monitor your treatment carefully
if your kidneys are not working properly to make
sure you do not build up too much calcium in your
blood)
- have
an overactive parathyroid gland
(hyperparathyroidism) or too much vitamin D in your
body (hypervitaminosis D)
-
already have a high concentration of calcium in your
blood (hypercalcaemia) or urine (hypercalciuria),
which may happen after a long period of immobility
- are
taking other medicines listed in the next section
- are
pregnant or breastfeeding, because the dose might
need adjustment
- have
had an allergic reaction before to any of the
ingredients
- have
a condition called sarcoidosis
Important
information about some of the ingredients of Cacit
Vitamin D3:
This
medicine contains sucrose. If your doctor has told you
that you have intolerance to some sugar, contact your
doctor before taking this medicinal product.
This
medicinal product contains 81.57 mg / 171.2 mg potassium
per sachet. To be taken into consideration by patient
with reduced kidney function or patient on a controlled
potassium diet.
This
medicinal product contains soya-oil. If you are allergic
to peanuts or soya, do not use this medicinal
product.Can you use Cacit D3 Granules while you are
taking other medicines ?
Do
not take the product without talking to your doctor
or pharmacist first if you are taking:

Any other medicine containing calcium and/or
vitamin D
-
The following heart medicines: digoxin or other
cardiac glycosides
-
Tetracycline antibiotics
-
Thiazide diuretics (water tablets)
-
Other drugs used to treat bone disorders, such
as bisphosphonates or sodium fluoride
-
Phenytoin or barbiturates
-
Glucocorticosteroids
-
You should also talk to your doctor or
pharmacist if you regularly eat food containing
oxalic acid, phosphate or phytinic acid.
How to
take Cacit D3 Granules
Pour the
contents of the sachet into a glass, fill with water,
stir then drink once the fizzing has subsided. The
recommended dosage is either one or two sachets per day.
Your doctor will tell you how many sachets to take per
day.
What
should you do if you take your medicine incorrectly?
If you
take too much medicine contact your doctor or your
nearest casualty department. If you miss a dose do
not double up, just continue as normal with the next
dose at the correct time.
Do Cacit
D3 Granules have side effects?
It is
unlikely that you will notice any side effects with this
product. If you do, it is likely to be stomach upset
(nausea), stomach pains, constipation, diarrhoea or
wind. Skin reactions, such as itching or rash are also
possible, especially in patients who have a tendency to
allergy. Tell your doctor if you experience any of these
side effects or any other side effects.
Storing
Cacit D3 Granules
Do not take
the medicine after the expiry "exp" date which is
printed on the pack and dot not store above 25°C. Keep
all medicines out of the reach and sight of children.
