DESTOLIT 150 mg TABLETS
Please read
this leaflet carefully before you start to take your
medicine. If you have any questions or are not sure
about anything ask your doctor or pharmacist.
What is
your medicine?
The name of
your tablets is DESTOLIT. Each tablet contains 150 mg of
ursodeoxycholic acid.
The tablets
also contain lactose, pregelatinised maize starch,
acacia gum, talc, magnesium stearate and purified water.
Each pack
contains 60 tablets. The tablets are white.
What you
should know about Destolit Tablets
Destolit
contains ursodeoxycholic acid, which is one of a group
of medicines used to dissolve gallstones.
What are
Destolit tablets for?
Destolit
tablets are used to dissolve gallstones. Not all
gallstones are suitable for treatment with Destolit, but
your doctor has decided that your condition may be
treated this way. Ursodeoxycholic acid is a chemical
present naturally in the body where it helps control the
amount of cholesterol in the blood. The tablets help
dissolve gallstones that are made mainly of cholesterol.
Before
taking your tablets
Do not use
Destolit if you know you are allergic to any of the
ingredients of the tablet.
Tell your
doctor if:-
- You
are or may be pregnant or are breast feeding
- you
have a stomach or duodenal ulcer
- you
have had bowel surgery (ileal resection) or regional
ileitis
- you
have a problem with your bowel
- you
have a problem with your gall bladder
- you
have any liver disease
You should
tell your doctor if you are taking hormone replacement
therapy, a contraceptive pill, cholestyramine, antacids,
ciclosporin or a medicine to lower blood cholesterol.
Taking
your tablets
Your doctor
or pharmacist will tell you how many tablets to take.
The usual
adult dose is between 3 and 4 tablets.
Destolit
tablets are usually taken twice a day. They are usually
taken with water after meals with one of the doses
always after your evening meal.
The medicine
will work best if taken together with a low cholesterol
and calorie controlled diet. You should discuss this
with your doctor.
You will not
normally take the tablets for more than two years and
your doctor will give you regular check-ups.
If you
accidentally take too many tablets it is unlikely that
you will notice any problems but you should tell your
doctor.
If you
forget to take your tablets, take them as soon as you
remember. If it is nearly time for the next dose then
take only that dose and do not take extra to make up for
the missed tablet.
After
taking your tablets
Destolit
tablets may not suit everyone and some people may
develop problems. These include feeling sick, vomiting
and itchy skin. Very rarely people get diarrhoea. If you
notice any other unusual effects tell your doctor
straight away.
Storing
your medicine
Do not use
your tablets after the expiry date shown on the box.
Keep your
medicine in a safe place where children cannot reach it.
Your medicine could harm them.
