What you
need to know about DIFFLAM Cream
Please read
this carefully before you start to take your medication.
This leaflet only provides a summary of the information
available on your medicine. If you have any questions or
are not sure about anything, ask your doctor or
pharmacist.
The name
of your medication is DIFFLAM Cream
It contains
an active ingredient called benzydamine hydrochloride
which is one of a group called non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs. The cream contains 3% w/w
benzydamine hydrochloride. It also contains the
following inactive ingredients: Cutina MD, Cetyl
alcohol, Cetiol V, Eumulgin B1, Propylene glycol,
Perfume crematest, Methyl hydroxybenzoate, Propyl
hydroxybenzoate and water. Each tube contains 100 g of
cream.
What
your medication is prescribed for
This cream
will help relieve pain and swelling when rubbed into the
skin of the affected area. It can be used to treat
sprains, strains, bruises, muscular pains and
non-arthritic inflamed joints.
Important points to note before using DIFFLAM Cream
If you are pregnant, think you might
be pregnant or are trying to become pregnant, please
tell your doctor before using this cream.
Do not use this cream if you are allergic to benzydamine
or the other ingredients.
It should not be applied to or used near the eyes,
mouth, nose or anogenital area.
How to
use DIFFLAM Cream
The amount
of cream used will depend on the size of the area to be
treated. The normal length of cream to be squeezed out
of the tube is between 35mm and 85mm long. This should
be rubbed gently into the affected area until it seems
to disappear.
The cream should be used three times each day for no
more than 10 days. Your doctor may tell you to use it
more often.
If you are not sure how often to apply the cream or how
much to use each time, please ask your doctor or
pharmacist.
Please wash your hands after applying the cream (unless
your hands are being treated).
What to
do in case of accidental overdosage
If the cream
is accidentally swallowed, please contact your nearest
hospital casualty department, or tell your doctor,
immediately.
What
might happen when you are using DIFFLAM Cream
Like most
other medications, this cream may cause some
side-effects.
These may include rashes, redness and itching of the
skin. Some patients may become more sensitive to the
effects of sunlight after using this cream. This means
that the skin may become red and painful after only a
few minutes in the sun. These side-effects should
disappear if you stop using the cream. If this happens
to you, please tell your doctor.
If you notice any other side-effects, please tell your
doctor or pharmacist. If any side-effects continue for
more than a few days, please tell your doctor.
Storing
your medication
Store the
cream in a safe place where children cannot reach it.
Store the cream between 5°C and 30°C. Do not freeze.
Do not use this product after the expiry date printed on
the original container.
If your doctor decides to stop treatment, return any
unused cream to your doctor or pharmacist.
REMEMBER: This medication is only
for YOU. Never give it to others. It may harm them even if
their symptoms seem to be the same as yours.
