Taking
your medicine
It is
important to take your medicine at the times you were
told by your doctor. The instructions on the label will
remind you of what the doctor said.
It will tell
you how much syrup to take and how often. Do not take
more than you have been told.
If you have
been given this medicine to help you sleep at night, the
usual dose is one to two 5 ml spoonfuls before bed. The
dose may be higher, one 5 ml spoonful 3 times a day if
you have been given it to stop you feeling restless or
agitated.
If you are
taking this syrup to help you withdraw from alcohol,
your dosage will start high, perhaps two to four 5 ml
spoonfuls every few hours but then it will gradually be
reduced by your doctor. You should not take Heminevrin
Syrup for longer than the doctor has advised which is
usually not more than 9 days.
What
happens if you take too much?
If you
accidentally take too much syrup, contact your
doctor immediately or go to the casualty department
of your nearest hospital, taking the medicine bottle
or carton with you.
If your
doctor decides that you should be given more than
the recommended dose for longer than the recommended
period of time for something not recommended by
AstraZeneca, you may become addicted to Heminevrin
Syrup or you may need to take increasingly higher
doses to get the same effect. Then, when you stop
taking the medicine, you could suffer from
withdrawal symptoms.
What
to do if you forget to take a dose?
If you
forget to take a dose of Heminevrin Syrup at the
correct time you may take it when you remember,
unless you are close to
taking your next dose. If so, you should miss out
the dose that was forgotten and then continue to
take your medicine at the times advised by your

miss one.
