Hexopal Forte Tablets

(Inositol Nicotinate)

Please read this leaflet carefully before you start to take your medicine.

This leaflet provides a summary of the information about your medicine.

If you have any questions or are not sure about anything ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The name of this medicine is Hexopal Forte Tablets. Its active ingredient is inositol nicotinate.

What is in this medicine?

Each tablet contains 750mg of Inositol Nicotinate BP.

The tablets also contain starch, talc, magnesium stearate, stearic acid and sodium lauryl sulphate.

Hexopal Forte Tablets are white or almost white oval tablets with a breakline on one side and HEX750 on the other. They are supplied in boxes of 112.

What is this medicine for?

Inositol nicotinate is a vasodilator.

Hexopal Forte is used to treat intermittent claudication (pain in the legs whilst walking) and Raynaud’s phenomenon (fingers and toes which go white and bloodless in the cold).

Before taking this medicine

You should not take Hexopal Forte if you are allergic to it or inositol nicotinate. If you have recently had a heart attack or a stroke do not take Hexopal Forte.

Special care is needed (check with your doctor) if you have cerebrovascular insufficiency (poor circulation to the brain) or unstable angina (chest pains).

Hexopal should not usually be taken during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant you should discuss your treatment with your doctor.

Taking this medicine

The usual dose is 2 Hexopal Forte tablets twice a day (3g inositol nicotinate daily).

The maximum dose is 4g inositol nicotinate a day. Check the label and if you are not sure check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Swallow the tablets with a drink of water.

 

If you forget to take a dose at the right time take it as soon as you remember then go on as before, but do not take 2 doses at the same time.

An overdose of this medicine may be dangerous. If you have taken an overdose tell your doctor or go to the nearest hospital casualty department immediately.

Whilst taking this medicine

Hexopal Forte may cause problems in some people. These are uncommon but may include headache, flushing, nausea (feeling sick), vomiting, oedema (swelling) and low blood pressure which may cause dizziness or fainting. Some people may feel pins and needles or develop a rash. If you experience these or any other unusual effects you should tell your doctor as soon as possible.

Do not take this medicine after the month shown on the pack.

Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Store below 25°C.
