Introduction
Please
read this leaflet carefully before you take this
medicine. This leaflet provides a summary of the
information available on your medicine. If you have
any queries about this medicine, or are not sure
about anything, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
About
Your Medicine
The name of
your medicine is Isotard 60XL Tablets. Each modified
release tablet of Isotard 60XL contains 60mg of
isosorbide-5-mononitrate.
Other
ingredients are used in the manufacture of your tablets.
They are polyethylene glycol,
hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, stearic acid, talc,
purified siliceous earth, lactose, carnauba wax,
magnesium stearate, and the colourings titanium dioxide
(E171) and yellow iron oxide (E172).
Isotard 60XL
tablets are oval, cream-coloured tablets with a score
line on both sides and also marked '60' on one side.
They are packaged in blister packs containing 28
tablets.
Isotard 60XL
Tablets are used to prevent angina (chest pain). They
work by opening up blood vessels and reducing the pain.
WHAT DO
ISOTARD 60XL TABLETS DO?
Isotard 60XL
tablets are used to prevent attacks of angina (angina
pectoris).
BEFORE
TAKING YOUR MEDICINE
Do not take
Isotard 60XL Tablets if you are hypersensitive to
isosorbide-5-mononitrate or any of the other ingredients
of the tablets.
Tell your
doctor or pharmacist if:
- You
have low blood pressure.
- You
are at risk of having a stroke.
- You
are taking other medicines, as some medicines do not
combine.
- You
are pregnant or breast feeding.
- You
are elderly or have liver, kidney or thyroid
disease.
Do not take sildenafil
(Viagra) or similar products for male erectile
dysfunction if you are taking Isotard 60XL. When taken
together a severe and possibly dangerous fall in blood
pressure can occur which may result in collapse,
unconsciousness and could be fatal. You should not take
Viagra whilst on Isotard 60XL Tablets.
Remember:
If you have
an attack of angina your doctor will supply you with
other medicines for this. Do not stop taking your
Isotard 60XL tablets.
If you
suffer from low blood pressure or dizziness, do not
drive or operate machinery whilst taking the tablets.
HOW TO
TAKE YOUR MEDICINE
The usual
dose for adults is 1 or 2 tablets given in the morning.
You should always take your medicine as directed by your
doctor. The doctor's instructions will be on the
dispensing label. If they are not, or you are not sure,
ask your doctor or pharmacist. Half a tablet may be
given for the first 2-4 days
Your doctor
will advise you of the dose you should take.
The dose for
the elderly is as for adults; however, your doctor will
take special care, especially if you have low blood
pressure, or liver or kidney disease.
The tablets
should not be crushed or chewed but swallowed whole with
half a glass of water.
This
medicine is not suitable for children.
If you
forget to take your tablet(s) but remember within 12
hours of the usual time, take it when you remember. If
you remember more than 12 hours after your usual time,
don't take it, just carry on with the next dose when it
is due.
If you are
unsure of anything, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
IF
YOU TAKE TOO MANY TABLETS
Contact
your nearest hospital casualty department or doctor
immediately. Take this leaflet and any remaining
tablets with you to show the doctor.
ARE
THERE ANY UNWANTED EFFECTS FROM THIS MEDICINE?
Headache may
occur when treatment is first started, but this usually
disappears after 1 to 2 weeks of treatment.
Dizziness,
tiredness and nausea due to low blood pressure may
occasionally occur. More rarely, flushing and allergic
rashes can occur.
If you
experience any other unusual or unexpected symptoms, you
should consult your doctor or pharmacist.
STORAGE
AND DISPOSAL OF YOUR MEDICINE
- Keep
your medicine where children cannot reach it.
- Do
not store above 25°C. Store in the original package.
Keep container in the outer carton.
- Do
not use your medicine if the pack is damaged or
after the expiry date printed on the pack.
- If
for any reason you have any medicine left after your
treatment, return it to your pharmacist.
Remember:
This
medicine is only for you. A doctor will prescribe this
medicine for you or, in emergencies, it may be purchased
from your pharmacist. Never give it to anyone else as it
may harm them, even if their symptoms are the same as
yours. The information in this leaflet only applies to
Isotard 60XL. It does not contain the complete
